Volunteer

What our volunteers do

Our Enquiry Desk is staffed entirely by volunteers.

 

Enquiry Service volunteers do NOT give any legal advice themselves.

 

They are responsible for...

• evaluating the caller’s issues
• signposting callers to other organisations if we are unable to help them
• taking down, and forwarding to the appropriate team, details of clients we may be able to help

 

Enquiry Service volunteers may also be asked to use an appointment booking system and to calculate caller’s financial eligibility for our services.

 

What to do if you are interested

Can you give approximately 3 hours per week on a regular basis for a minimum period of 6 months? If so, download our application pack which consists of the following documents, all in PDF format:

What we cannot offer

Because we have limited resources we regret that...

• we cannot offer work experience for school or college students
• we cannot offer summer placements for law students
• we cannot offer work shadowing
• we cannot offer opportunities for volunteers to undertake casework

 

Other opportunities

We are keen to recruit Volunteer Management Committee members.

 

Applicants must...

• demonstrate an understanding of the ethos of the Law Centre
• be willing to attend a monthly Management Committee Meeting
• be prepared to contribute to a Sub-Committee for other work

 

It would be desirable for Management Committee volunteers to have experience of running an organisation, or managing people, or providing a service to the public.

 

Volunteers with knowledge of Financial Management are especially welcome.
