Employment

What we do

We offer specialist employment law advice to the people of Sheffield and its surrounding areas.

We also offer a full casework service for most areas of employment law.

What we don't do

We don't advise employers. If you are an employer try one of the websites listed on this page to find information about employment law. If you need specific legal advice you could contact a local solicitor.

We don't usually advise trade union members. If you are a member of a trade union you should seek advice directly from your union rather than contacting us.

Contact us for employment law advice

  • We prefer you to contact our Enquiry Line on 0114 2731888 in the first instance.
  • We will ask you for your contact details and a brief outline of your problem.
  • This information will be passed on to our Employment Team.

Our response

  • Our Employment Team will phone you back to get full details of the problem.
  • They may phone you back the same day, but in busy periods it could take them two weeks or more.
  • We will assess your eligibility for free Legal Help
  • If you qualify for Legal Help we will normally arrange to see you.
  • If you do not qualify for Legal Help we will normally signpost you on to a local solicitor.
  • If your query is straightforward we may simply advise you over the phone.

Employment Tribunal Representation

The Legal Help scheme does not cover representation in tribunals.

If your enquiry involves a tribunal claim, and if you qualify for Legal Help, we may be able to represent you at the tribunal.

We can only represent you if...

  • we believe that by representing you we will significantly improve your prospects of success
  • we have the capacity to do so

For very simple cases (for example, wages claims) we will not normally represent you in an Employment Tribunal. However, we can help you to prepare your case.
